It is my privilege to be able to share with you again this week.
As we continue through Proverbs, the Contrast of the Upright and the Wicked still are helping us to stay the course with the Lord.
Let’s see what Proverbs 14:1. “The wise woman builds her house, but the foolish tears it down with her own hands.”
One of the greatest misconceptions about being a Christian is that God will automatically fix everything once you get saved.
I do not know where that came from but it’s just not true. It is a fact that God does repair situations in our life, maybe even from our own troubles
But a wise man once told me there is something important to God about living a life of faith in this world. We know the Scripture is clear….
Without Faith in God it is impossible for us to please Him. God wants us to believe in Him even though we don’t always see the work He does in us
Yet there is one thing God does promise, it that He says He will always walk with us in the midst of our life and situations.
The wise women builds her house. God is talking about our ladies strapping on tool belts and hanging stud walls,
Unless that is what she wants to do, then more power to her but what the Lord is saying to us is there is great importance in the many ways
she builds her home from how she keeps it running each day, to how the children and grandchildren are cared for – in all that entails.
To honoring God in her thoughts, motives, and actions. And how she works to diligently keep God’s Name at the top of what she does.
The contrasting statement is how she herself can tear it down just the same by making foolish ungodly decisions or letting the world help
dictate what she does and how she does it. Most assuredly will the many types of ceilings and walls she has made in her family’s life
come falling to the ground if the Lord’s ways are not honored. So true it is that God is not a respecter of persons in this matter.
From a man’s point of view I guess I will give you my perspective on this. Take a look at Proverbs 14:3
“In the mouth of the foolish is a rod for his back, but the lips of the wise will protect them.” (Story about the dent in Sammy’s car).
Learned a valuable lesson that day being sidetracked with my own issues and mouthing my disgust I had about that situation cost me dollars!!!
Proverbs 14:11 says, “The house of the wicked will be destroyed, but the tent of the upright will flourish.”
Or maybe say,
“The little white car of the complaining will receive dents, but the Ford Focus of those with upright habits, won’t.”
I am glad that God has created a world which sometimes allows us to experience our own folly only so that we truly make important changes.
If God was not faithful in allowing us a little trouble now and again, we probably would even scoff at the idea of seeking Him.
What an absolute tragedy for those who never get that truth about the Lord. Where He loves us so much that He will allow things
To happen for our own good. I think real wisdom is knowing the difference between when an imperfect world comes knocking on the door
Of our life, or when we have caused something done by our own power and realize it was us who caused the issue.
Isn’t so easy to be a blame thrower? Look at Proverbs 14:25. A truthful witness saves lives, but he who utters lies is treacherous.
Blame throwers can come from any sector of life and we can blame, blame throwers too for all the troubles in our own life.
Yet, what is God calling us to do about our own ability to throw blame?
Proverbs 15:1 says, “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.”
Concerning our trial from last week, one thing I remember about it was we never lost our composure in all of that.
I mean we really could have too.
Maybe a few years back it would’ve been different. It wasn’t easy to face, but we’ve gained wisdom with the Lord’s help in difficult situations.
And one thing we cannot do is have a Christian World View based on what others do and say. Though we love and even respect people,
No one is reliable to carry out the Lord’s ways, except the Lord Himself. It is why we have His Word and His Holy Spirit within us to help.
See what Proverbs 15:12 says. “A scoffer does not love one who reproves him, he will not go to the wise.”
People who are sometimes even close to us hate correction. And when you know you’re are right based on how God’s Word addresses something,
Sometime those you are trying to help will not listen. You might be tempted to shake them loose from your life, dust off feet…
Yet as I stated last week, let us continue to pray for those who have persecuted us and those who run on an ungodly path.
Remember this statement from Proverbs 15:31-32. This is what God says about us in this verse.
“31 He whose ear listens to the life-giving reproof will dwell among the wise. 32 He who neglects discipline despises himself, but he who listens to reproof acquires understanding.”
It said he who neglects discipline despises himself, and the reason God can say that is because everything in life is weighed and measured
Based on His standards, the morals and ethics, the principles generated from God Himself which emanate from His Spirit.
Which by the way as a believer has. Do you want the Spirit of God in your life to help you make better decisions?
Are you so very tired of trying it every other way and wisdom tells you, you come up short every time?
You keep hearing the voice of reason but try your own way only toppling off life’s paths, having to start all over again on an issue?
Why is it we can’t just trust God for every area of our life? Proverbs 16:17 says,
“The highway of the upright is to depart from evil; he who watches his way preserves his life.”
Or remember this verse? Proverbs 16:18. “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before stumbling.”
Remember we serve a Righteous King who with great power and might, cannot help but do right and good, even though dangerous to some,
He is good and loves us beyond what we can comprehend or imagine. Proverbs says when we seek the Lord’s face, there we will find life.
His favor on us is like a cloud that offers a soothing spring rain of favor and support in the middle of our troubles.
He wants us to obtain His Wisdom which is better than fine gold, and Understanding which is to be chosen above silver.
So even though others around us may not follow the Lord, we will. Even though others sway from one so-called truth over to another,
We won’t. There is only one truth and His Name is Jesus Christ!
Let our appetites and hunger be helped by the Lord because He gives us food in the season of our life which no one knows about,
Unless they too have experienced the love and provision of the Lord.
Proverbs 16:25 says, “There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.”
It just goes to show the heart of man is not pure but God is and He wants us to draw near to Him and His presence.
I have said before the reason Heaven will be so amazing isn’t just because God created it, our world is pretty amazing even though it has fallen.
The reason Heaven will be so grand is because God Himself will be there and then, only then will we experience the amazing power of God.
When we get tiny tastes of His Spirit within us, do we want more, and one day we will all know His power at a scale not yet experienced.
Would you like to prepare for that day, when the Lord calls you?
Remember God gave us the Book of Proverbs and the Contrast of the Upright and the Wicked to help us draw closer to Him.
Let His Holy Spirit speak to you now and receive Him and Savior and Lord, walking by faith for the rest of your days.
